BONNER COUNTY REPUBLICANS DENOUNCE LGBTQI2S PRIDE ON THE SCHWEITZER MOUNTAIN PROMOTED AS FAMILY FRIENDLY.

February 20, 2026 – Schweitzer Mountain Resort, owned by Alterra, has decided to join with a local group to promote the LGBTQI2S lifestyle at the resort on March 21,2026.

L=Lesbian. G=Gay. B=Bi-sexual. T=Transgender. Q=Queer. I=Intersex. 2S=Two spirit to describe a person who embodies both a masculine and feminine spirit.

Schweitzer Mountain Resort has joined with Sandpoint Alliance for Equality to hold this even all day on the mountain with “family friendly” events like “Pride Village” at 9 AM, “Big Gay Selfie” at 1 PM, a “Rainbow Parade” at 2 PM, followed by pizza and an afterparty and drag  show, in which at least that is limited to 21 and over.

North Idaho is highly Republican and respects traditional family values. While we do not discriminate against people’s private sex lives, we do condemn confusing children and families with the lie that men can become women and that one’s unusual sexuality ought to be celebrated and paraded in public as a family-friendly event.

As a result the Bonner County Republican Party passed the following resolution:

WHEREAS, Schweitzer Mountain intends to host a “Pride on the Mountain” event (“Event”) in collaboration with the Sandpoint Alliance for Equality (“SAFE”) on March 21st, 2026; and,

WHEREAS, SAFE purports to “value humans in all the shapes, ideologies, backgrounds, beliefs, opinions, histories, identities, ages, colors, religions, and marvelous varieties they come in”; and,

WHEREAS, the particular sexual proclivities of individuals are neither shapes, ideologies, backgrounds, beliefs, opinions, histories, identities, ages, colors, religions, nor varieties but are instead merely individual sexual preferences and practices; and,

WHEREAS, the display of individual sexual proclivities, preferences, and/or practices often dulls the line that defines Public Display of Sexual Material as defined in Idaho Code Section 18-4105; and,

WHEREAS, the display of individual sexual proclivities, preferences, and/or practices can be considered Harmful to Minors as defined in HB 710 of 2024 which was passed as a restriction for libraries, schools, and retail establishments; and,

WHEREAS, past events conceived and hosted by SAFE for the purpose of displaying and highlighting individual sexual proclivities have included performances which would be considered Harmful to minors as defined in HB 710 of 2024; and,

WHEREAS, the Idaho Republican Party recognizes the need to protect our minor children from such material, which can be referenced in resolutions adopted during the January 2023 Winter meeting and the June 2023 Summer meeting, found at https://idgop.org/party-resources/ ; and

WHEREAS, Schweitzer Mountain presents itself as a family destination and hosts countless numbers of minors every day; and,

WHEREAS, the Event is scheduled to take place throughout many public areas on Schweitzer Mountain that are accessible to minors.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Bonner County Republican Central Committee expresses that it does not support the “Pride on the Mountain” event which is scheduled to take place on Schweitzer Mountain on March 21st, 2026; and,

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Bonner County Republican Central Committee is concerned about the potential impact of the Event on minor children that may be in attendance at Schweitzer Mountain; and,

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the Bonner County Republican Central Committee requests that Schweitzer Mountain voluntarily considers limiting all activities associated with the Event to areas of the resort which are restricted to those eighteen (18) years of age and above.
